On Monday, October 12, Etchu Owara, a traditional performing art from Toyama Prefecture, was performed by the Toyama Prefectural Association at the Local Culture Table stage program during the Rakuten Kuishinbo Festival at Yoyogi Park.
Etchu Owara is a traditional Japanese folk song and dance originating from Yatsuo, Toyama City, in Toyama Prefecture.
Known for its melancholic melodies and graceful, flowing movements, the dance is traditionally performed by dancers wearing distinctive woven straw hats. It is also closely associated with Owara Kaze no Bon, a traditional festival held every September.

During the performance, dancers dressed in traditional costumes showcased the elegant movements that make Etchu Owara so distinctive.

It was a wonderful opportunity to experience Japan’s rich regional traditions right here in Shibuya.
