March 27: Sakura Day — Spring Arrives in Shibuya

March 27 is known as “Sakura Day” in Japan.
It comes from a wordplay—“saku (3×9) = 27”—and also marks the seasonal period known as “桜始開(さくらはじめてひらく)”(Sakura Hajimete Hiraku), when cherry blossoms begin to bloom.

On this day that signals the arrival of spring, cherry blossoms have started to appear in Shibuya.
